Things to Do

Visit the National Mall

All 19 of the city's Smithsonian Institution museums are free, and cover everything from modern art to Native American cultures.

It would be impossible to visit all of them in a day, or even week, but they are certainly worth a visit! Our favorites are the National Museum of Natural History, the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of American History.

Walking tour of the Monuments

Picture of Walking tour of the Monuments

Fortunately, the most important monuments and memorials are close together and organized in a way to make it relatively easy to see a large number of them on a single visit. A self-lead monuments tour takes you by foot on a 3.7 mile walk to see the 8 most famous and iconic American monuments and memorials.

The ones you will see on this tour are:

- Thomas Jefferson Memorial

- FDR Memorial

- MLK Memorial

- Korean War Veterans Memorial

- Lincoln Memorial

- Vietnam Veterans Memorial

- World War 2 Memorial

- Washington Monument

Be aware that this route, and the National Mall in general, is often out in the open, and during hot Washington DC summers can get warm quickly. During the summer, we suggest you start early and get done before the major heat of the day kicks in by the afternoon.

Explore Waterfronts in & Around DC

Georgetown offers a beautiful waterfront with panoramic views of the Kennedy Center, the Key Bridge and Roosevelt Island. Stop by the historic neighborhood for shopping on M Street or for a bite to eat!

The Wharf offers countless things to do and see—on and off the water. Grab a drink by the water, listen to live music or simply kick back and relax at one of the outdoor dining areas.

Navy Yard is home to Nationals Park, many new restaurants and The Bullpen -- the bar Savannah and Sean met at!

*Sean recommends Walter's if you visit our neighborhood. *

Old Town Alexandria is just as beautiful as it is historic. Shop and walk up King Street, catch a ride on the Old Town Trolley ... and stop by Mike and Julie McCann's new home ;)
